Express Scripts Mobile App® helps beneficiaries manage their medications safely, giving them the peace of mind they deserve. Many patients find the mobile app convenient, accessible, and easy to use. It's like a pharmacy on the go and can help patients:

Request a prescription

Patients can easily see which prescriptions need to be refilled or refilled and reorder that medication within the mobile app. The mobile app can also connect patients with our pharmacists 24/7 if they have any questions about their order or prescription.

Track a prescription order

The mobile app displays information on the current status of the order with the estimated shipping date, real-time tracking, and can inform patients if a prescription will be delayed. Once the prescription is shipped, patients can click on the tracking number to see where their order is in transit.

Set up automatic recharges

Don't miss a dose! If a prescription is eligible, patients can set up and manage automatic refills of their medications. Express Scripts will refill and send prescriptions to patients when they have 25% of their current prescription left, so they never run out of medication.

Pay a bill

The mobile app will display a person's current balance on your account so you can pay a bill quickly. Payment options include: checking account, credit card, PayPal, and Masterpass. Patients can also set up automatic payments for their medications, allowing them to set a limit on the amount that is withdrawn from their account.

The Express Scripts mobile app can help patients maintain a routine. Patients can set dose reminders to advise them to take their medication. A recent study [1] showed that people using Express Scripts Pharmacy adhered better to their medication routine.

How to fill prescriptions with OHI and TRICARE coverage

If you have TRICARE and other health insurance (OHI), you can receive lower out-of-pocket costs and avoid additional paperwork by coordinating your prescription drug benefit online.

What is other health insurance (OHI)?

OHI is health insurance that you have in addition to TRICARE. If your OHI covers pharmacy benefits, it is your main prescription coverage. This means that you must pay for your drug before TRICARE will pay for anything. [1]

How do I know if Express Scripts administers the pharmacy benefit under my OHI?

To find out if Express Scripts administers the pharmacy benefit under your OHI, contact your OHI and ask about your pharmacy and prescription drug coverage. You can also call Express Scripts at 877.363.1303. Make sure you have the name of your health plan handy.

How do I fill prescriptions via home delivery with Express Scripts Pharmacy®?

If Express Scripts administers the prescription drug benefit under your OHI, you can use Express Scripts Pharmacy® with your OHI. Your benefits are automatically coordinated using both your OHI and TRICARE. This means that you do not have to submit a paper claim to coordinate your OHI and TRICARE pharmacy coverage.

What if I can't use Express Scripts Pharmacy® with my OHI?

If Express Scripts is not your OHI pharmacy benefit manager, you cannot use Express Scripts Pharmacy® and must use a network retail pharmacy or other home delivery program if specified by your OHI pharmacy benefit.

If you use a retail pharmacy in the TRICARE network, your OHI is the primary payer and TRICARE is the secondary payer. [1] TRICARE becomes the primary payer when your OHI does not cover your drug, if you have exhausted your OHI benefit coverage for the year, or if TRICARE coverage rules apply.

How to get started with home delivery:

Have a new recipe? Ask your doctor to electronically prescribe a 90-day supply to Express Scripts® Pharmacy. Or ask a military pharmacist to transfer your prescription to home delivery.

If you have an active prescription, please sign up or log into your account and switch your eligible medications to home delivery. You can also call Express Scripts at 1877 363 303 and we will contact your doctor to request that they send your prescription to Express Scripts® Pharmacy.

Once we have your prescription, we'll take care of the rest. We will verify that your prescription is safe and effective before we mail it to you. If we have any questions, we will contact your doctor.

When you receive your medication via home delivery, Express Scripts offers you multiple payment options so you can choose the one that is most convenient for you.

Configure Autopay

It's easy to set up automatic payments for your drugs. Autopay allows you to set a limit on the amount we can withdraw from your account, just to make sure there are no unexpected surprises.


Use our Extended Payment Program (EPP)

We also offer an Extended Payment Program (EPP) that allows you to pay for home delivery orders in three monthly installments. There is no service fee. Once you are enrolled in the program, you will see an EPP payment schedule at checkout.


Sign up for Autopay or EPP:

Log in and go to Payment Information under Account in the navigation menu at the top of the screen.

Choose Edit.

What is medical necessity?

You deserve the right medicine for you and your plan.

Your TRICARE plan has a list of covered drugs called a formulary list. We regularly review and compare the drugs on the list to make sure they are safe and effective. Formulary drugs must provide you with the same health benefits at a lower cost than similar non-formulary drugs.

Your plan covers formulary drugs, but it does not cover non-formulary drugs.

Sometimes doctors think that a drug that is not on the formulary is a "medical necessity." If TRICARE agrees, you can get a non-formulary drug at formulary cost or at no charge if you are on active duty.

To prove medical necessity, your doctor must submit a medical necessity form to Express Scripts. You can find the formulary with your drug information in the Formulary Search Tool. You can request medical necessity by using home delivery or a network pharmacy. In fact, coverage for some non-formulary drugs requires home delivery.

We are happy to work with your doctor to get you the right medications to manage your health. We will inform you and your physician of the status of a medical necessity request when determined.

Some medications must be kept at a specific temperature. Express Scripts uses advanced technology to predict the weather during shipping. We prepare each package for your unique trip. We use white foam coolers and ice or hot gel packs to keep medications at the proper temperature.

Starting with home delivery

There are many ways to sign up for home delivery. We suggest that you have at least a 30-day supply of your medication left while we complete your first order.

Mobile App - You can transfer an existing prescription to home delivery in the Express Scripts® mobile app. To download the free app, search for "Express Scripts" in the app store. Use the same username and password as your online account.

Online: After a simple one-time registration, you can request refills, check your order status, pay bills, and more.

Mail: Complete the Home Delivery Record Form (PDF file). Then send the form and your 90-day prescription to the address on the form.

Phone: Call 877.363.1296. You will need your prescription bottle.

Moving? Your medicine can move too.

You can change your permanent address or add a temporary address. After moving, be sure to also update your address in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).

What if I have other health insurance (OHI)?

Some members have TRICARE and other health insurance (OHI). This insurance can be private, employer, or Medicare Part D insurance. If your OHI has a prescription drug benefit plan, you cannot use home delivery. But you can use home delivery if your drug is not covered, your OHI does not cover pharmacy benefits, or if you have met your deductible.

1. Medication is free for active duty members. Copays remain the same as the 2017 rates for dependent survivors of active duty service members and medically retired service members and their dependents. The chart does not include out-of-network retail pharmacy use and represents TRICARE copayments effective February 1, 2018.

How to access your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) online

Your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement shows a summary of your previous drug orders. It includes what you ordered, the money you saved, and your remaining balance.

You will receive a printed EOB in the mail every three months. You can also review a monthly EOB online. You can view, print, or download your EOB statements from 27 months ago.

How to find your EOB statements:

Login to your account.

Under Benefits in the top menu, select Explanation of benefits.

Choose a date range.

Click Get an EOB to view your information.

Switch to EOB statements online:

Set your account communication preferences to receive your next EOB online. It is safer to review your EOB online as you can only read your statements after logging in. This means there is less risk of identity theft and fraud.

To switch to online statements, visit Account in the top menu and select Communication Preferences. Under Documents - EOB, change your shipping method to "Get Connected."

Enroll in the Prescription Implementation Program (DPP)

You have a lot to deal with when preparing for deployment. We want to make sure you get your medications long-term. Enroll in the Express Scripts Prescription Implementation Program (DPP) and we will ship your medications to you. Get your medicine when and where you need it. 

You can use DPP delivery if:

A member of the deployed service

A deployed civil service contractor or employee AND you are TRICARE eligible (for example, retiree or spouse)

Exception: DPP is not available if you have other health insurance (OHI) with a pharmacy benefit. By law, you must use your other benefit plan first.

Receive your health care through the Transition Assistance Management Program

How to enroll in the Prescription Program in place:

Talk to your provider. Get a 180-day or more supply of your long-term medication at any Military Treatment Center (MTF). Your vendor will also need to complete a pre-deployment prescription form to enroll you in Express Scripts Home Delivery. Then ask them to submit their pre-deployment recipe to Express Scripts for processing.

Register your Express Scripts account. Put your implementation mailing address (APO / FPO) and your email address in your account. If you don't, your medication will be shipped to the address we have on file.

Express Scripts will send you an email within 60 days of deployment to remind you to update your current mailing address (APO / FPO). If you do not receive this email, please contact the DPP team at any time at deployedprescriptionprogram@express-scripts.com or 855-215-4488.

Express Scripts will send you an email 120 days after deployment to remind you to order your medication.

Order refills online. We will ship your medication to the address you provided when you submitted the prescription. Shipping to an address in the theater takes 3-4 weeks.
